What’s this “collective wisdom” all about?

People who engage in lots of sports, movement, or exercise often think of injuries as an unfortunate part of life. In any given “active” community, most people have some experience of injury, but it’s rare that lots of people are injured at the same time. Once an injury has passed, most people like to try and put it behind them and hope it doesn’t return.

Despite the universal nature of injuries in the sporting communities, they often bring with them feelings of isolation and hopelessness. Injuries of every size have a unique knack of dislocating people from their networks, routines, and preferred coping mechanisms - be it for a week or a year.

When an injury strikes, one of the things people often find helpful is feeling connected to other people who understand what they’re up against. In my work as a psychotherapist leading Reframe Sessions, I have noticed that behind every injury is a story of resilience, strategies for sanity, and a newfound empathy for the crapness that comes with it all. It got me thinking, what if there was a way to pass this hard-won knowledge on to others who might benefit, later down the line?

This “collective wisdom” part of the website is exactly that. Our hope is to create an ever-growing bank of letters and notes for people up against injury, by people who have an experience of injury. Some of these letters have come from Reframe Sessions (1-1 and community sessions), others from people who heard about the project and wanted to contribute, and hopefully one might be from someone like you…

If you’re an active person and you know what it feels like to wrestle with the unknown of a niggle or injury of any size - you will have ideas that could offer connection, validation, or hope to someone else. Whoever you are, your words are welcome here. Start writing, and you might just surprise yourself.
